Featured in the The Financial Brand’s article “The Best Annual Reports from Banks and Credit Unions.” Key highlights from the piece include: "Zions Bancorp.’s annual report resembles an alluring travelogue and has a unifying theme: resilience...dominated by stunning photos in subdued tones of the sweeping, rugged vistas of Monument Valley in Utah…the narrative, accompanied by the “rock solid” photo imagery, highlights messages of fortitude and strength — compelling notes to strike at a time when the banking industry has been rocked by turbulence."
When conceptualizing how to visually represent resilience, I took inspiration from the environmental and natural wonders of the very region the Bancorp serves, the American West. Resilience can be found throughout the region from the arid landscape of the Mojave where joshua trees dot the desert floor, to the hoodoos that precariously define the landscape of Bryce Canyon NP, the American Bison who’s journey to near extinction and back again defines natures ability to survive, and to a single Pinyon Pine defying all reason in order to thrive on a rocky cliff face in Zions NP.
With a modern layout and style, the design allows the imagery and graphs to demand the readers attention while creating an asymmetrical balance with the content of the report. Negative space is used throughout the layout in order to give the design an open feel in homage to the vast landscapes of the American West.
To visually represent the vast open landscapes of the American West, I designed a full image spread with an additional 5.5” foldout. The panoramic of Monumet Valley engages the reader the moment they open the report cover.
